The next time you’re at a theme park, you may be able to “Outwit. Outplay. Outlast.” like the contestants on Survivor without having to give up air-conditioning, eat grubs, and be devoured by mosquitos. CBS Consumer Products, in partnership with RWS and Associates, will be bringing Survivor: Live to three American theme parks this summer and perhaps more if the venture is a success.
Survivor: Live, which will be a 30 minute interactive show, will feature video clips from the series as well as actors portraying previous Survivor players. Volunteers from the audience will get to participate in a series of challenges that replicate the experience of being on the show. The game will include tribes, immunity challenges, tribal council, and a jury vote, although the winner will not receive a prize.
Survivor creator and executive producer Mark Burnett was consulted while Survivor: Live was being created but he was not actively involved in its development. It is unknown if host Jeff Probst will record a narration or if Probst-like actors will be hired to fill his role.
The first two theme parks to get Survivor: Live are Elitch Gardens in Denver and Oklahoma City’s Frontier City, both on May 2. A third show will debut at the Darien Lake Theme Park Resort in Darien Center, N.Y. on May 23. If Survivor: Live proves to be a success, more parks are expected to add it next year.
